September 11: Actress Shriya Saran from India is 29-years-old today.




Born in Dehradun, Shriya Saran began her career acting in music videos, while attending an acting studio. After her feature film debut in 2001 with Ishtam, she gained Telugu cinema's attention in 2002 by playing the role of Bhanu in Santhosham, her first box office success.
Next, she appeared in several Telugu films with prominent actors, whilst, also making in-roads in the Hindi film industry as well as the Tamil film industry.
In 2007, Saran gained nationwide fame after her performance alongside Rajinikanth in Sivaji: The Boss (which became the highest grossing Tamil film at that time. She then starred in a Hollywood film and several Hindi and Tamil films.
Saran performs predominantly in lead roles in high-budget and major studio films, ranging from romantic comedies and drama to science fiction and action thrillers. Following commercial successes with Santhosham, Tagore, The Boss and Kanthaswamy, she established herself as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industry.


Her other major box office films are  Nuvve Nuvve, Nenunnanu,  Chatrapathi, Thiruvilayadal Arambam, Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Kutty. Also, Mission Istaanbul and Awaarapan which earned her Filmfare nomination for best debut actress.
While studying her second year at the LSR College in Delhi, Saran got her first opportunity to appear in front of the camera, given the chance to appear in the music video of Reenu Nathan's Tirakthi Kyon Hawa.

The video—shot prompted Ramoji Films to offer her the lead role of Neha in their film Ishtam. Even before the release of Ishtam, Saran signed four high-budget films including Santosham, Chennakeshava Reddy, Nuvve Nuvve and Tagore.

Shriya studied at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and received a B. A. degree in literature. Saran was trained as a Kathak dancer during her youth and later became a Kathakali dancer as well.
